The biggest Gothic Cathedral in the world took more than one hundred years to construct and occupied the site of the ancient Mosque after the troops of Fernando III entered the city in 1248. The Cathedral, called Santa María de la Sede, was declared Cultural Heritage for Humanity in 1987. In the interior we can enjoy the immense Christian altarpiece with its more than a thousand figures, or the incredible chapels that line its naves. But we can also contemplate two elements from the Muslim era: the ancient minaret, the Giralda, with its spectacular views; and the patio of ablutions, today known as the Patio de los Naranjos. And, finally, we can take in the magnificent views from the top of the Giralda, accessed by a steep ramp, once the path to get to the top by horse.
