BANKS Bank hours are approximately from 8:30 to 14:00, Monday to Friday. If you plan on staying in Spain over 6 months you will probably need to get a bank account. In Spain there are two types of bank account for foreigners: resident and non-resident. Non-residents need to bring their passport or an ID document which is valid in their country of origin (a driving license may not be accepted, depending on the bank). In addition, within 15 days of opening the account you must prove your non-resident status presenting a non-resident certificate. You can get this in any national police station. In reality, many banks do not require the non-resident certificate. If they ask you for it in a bank branch, we suggest you go to a different branch or bank to avoid this problem. Currency exchange can be done in banks or in different
exchange offices located in the airport and in the city center. Exchange
offices do not close at midday and are usually open until 9 p.m. |
