Breakdown of the Exam: Intermedio

The exam consists of the following sections:

1. Reading Comprehension

In the official exams candidates are given 60 minutes to complete this section. Candidates are required to answer 12 multiple choice questions based on 4 texts. The texts used have a maximum length of 450 words.

2. Written Expression

The duration of this section in the official exams is 60 minutes. Candidates must write a personal letter and a composition, each of which must be between 150 and 200 words.

3. Listening Comprehension

In 30 minutes, candidates must answer 12 multiple choice questions based on 4 oral texts (recordings), which may be notices, news excerpts, conversations or interviews.

4. Grammar and vocabulary

In the official exams, candidates have 60 minutes to complete this section, which consists of 2 parts:

• A. Gapped texts (20 gaps): the candidate must choose the best word to complete each gap, with three options given for each gap.

• B. Multiple selection: the candidate must complete 40 brief dialogues with the most appropriate answer of those given for each gap.

5. Oral Expression

In the official exams candidates are required to maintain a 10 to 15 minute conversation with the tribunal.
