Breakdown of the Exam: Avanzado

The exam consists of the following sections:

1. Reading Comprehension

(60 minutes) - This section consists of two exercises:

• A. The candidate must answer 9 multiple choice questions based on 3 texts. The texts used have a maximum length of 800 words.

• B. A matching exercise with a maximum of 10 series of sections of texts.

2. Written Expression

(60 minutes) - Candidates are required to write two types of composition, each with a length of between 150 and 200 words:

• A. A letter based on a non-personal situation.

• B. A composition.

3. Listening Comprehension

(45 minutes) - The candidate is required to answer 16 multiple choice questions based on four oral texts (recordings). The recordings may be conversations between two or more speakers, or media commentaries or reports.

4. Grammar and vocabulary

(60 minutes) - This section consists of three different parts:

• A. Gapped text (20 gaps): candidates must choose the best option to complete the gaps in a text, with three options being given for each gap.

• B. Multiple choice exercises: the candidate is required to choose the best option to complete the gaps in 35 phrases.

• C. The candidate must identify 5 grammatical errors in one or various brief texts.

5. Oral Expression

In the official exams, candidates are required to maintain a 10 to 15 minute conversation with the Tribunal.
