El Patio de los Naranjos.
Together with the Giralda of Seville, it is the
only remains of the old main mosque of the city. It is where the
Moslems carried out ablutions as an act of purification. Orange
trees cover the whole courtyard joined by little canals for irrigation
on the brick pavement.

The walls surrounding it have handmade engravings
with more than 880 sentences from the Koran in Arabic.
In the middle of the courtyard there is a Visigothic
fountain where, according to legend Saint Hemenegildo was baptized.
On the sides there are galleries with pointed horseshoe arches which
enclose the Chapter Library and the Columbus Library as well as
the only chapel which remains from the old Mosque Cathedral, that
of the Virgin of Pomegranate.
